Camp Lo is working on some special things for 2011. This here is just a teaser off an upcoming, pre-album mixtape with DJ Trackstar, featuring freestyles over (mostly) Pete Rock classics (I say mostly since there’s rumor that some new exclusives and/or remixes will be featured on said mixtape as well). Here they take turns tearing chunks out of the intro to “Straighten It Out”…and if you ask me, the funked out opener is much more of an ideal fit for their OG stylings than the actual joint CL rhymed over back in ’92. Once again, the Lo demonstrates how they are masters of the language.
Just a quick note, Geechi and Cheeba’s new full-length will feature them performing under a new name, 80 Blocks From TIffany’s, as they have recruited Pete Rock to make up the final component of the group. This means all of the production will be handled by the Soul Brother (!!!).
I’ve been preaching this whole “rappers need to make albums with only one or two producers” shit for a while now…glad some people are feeling the same way and acting on it.
