(Re)Introducing Roscoe P Coldchain: a concrete-bred wordsmith high posted as an exclamation point at the end of Philly’s on-going, utterly savage, life-imitates-art rap dialogue. If you know anything about this cat, it’s that it just doesn’t get much more G than him…and by “G,” I mean genuine and good on his word. Many people rap a cinema-worthy pseudo-reality, but ‘Scoe seems to have the rap sheet and current case allegations to match his grown man City Of God-like parables (try having a career as a rapper while wearing a halo of double homocide). No glorification of the negative though, as the man stands as just another example of a great talent who has witnessed and, perhaps in a previous life, fallen choking victim to Philly’s thick cloud of frenzied inner city turmoil. Through all of the ski mask tales, though, there lays a realist’s perspective that more resembles an icy bucket of water dumped-o’er-head than the typical champagne bubble bath (that is just really unhygienic in the end). Coldchain, a rapper with a story and an unreadable approach, is himself the story rappers continue to tell over and over and over again.
