The tracks from this release continue to impress … Yonkers heads still bringing it for the 2010. What block you from!? Another tough joint from Sheek’s Donnie G: Don Gorilla. Sheek Louch “Make Some Noise” (Feat. Fabolous) More Chef action. Not so new, but fuck it. Straight from the slums of Shaolin…some gutter shit by the Wisemen…also produced by Bronze Nazareth (the force behind the newly leaked “Butter Knives”). Hard music is music to our ears. Props to my millz Chris over at Grand Good. Mydelf and Geng were able to make it over to check Black Army Jacket’s reunion show on September 4th in the zone they started in, NYC. PTP has recorded our own take of the events but for this episode of Brutal Tuesday, enjoy the angle provided by GutterKiss. Don’t play yourself after you check the footage of the show, tune into more BAJ tracks here.
Who else but Mr. Kanye West to supply Twist with that solid beat? Well, I’d say No I.D. (more on that in a minute)…but you gotta admit the two Chi-towners have helped each other out and done some quality work together…and “Hustlaz” further illustrates how nice it would be if the two were to work together more often. Twista “Hustlaz” (Produced by Kanye West) As a bonus (this is by no means new, but still recent and worth the attention)…Kanye’s mentor, No I.D., laces Twist with a gem and things get further into the realm of gully with guest bars from a certain Chef Raekwon. Honestly, I wish Twist went in harder on his ’97 shit (pause), but I can definitely dig what he was getting at within the verses.
New joint from Ortiz’s sophomore effort, Free Agent. Featuring the Yonker’s squad. Damn Jada. Joell Ortiz “Put Some Money On It” (Feat. The Lox)
My stereo was never one to pump much tunes from the south aside from the necessary ‘Face, UGK, early CMB (side note – BG!), and MJG & 8Ball, but every once in a while an artist from the bottom of the map will catch my attention. I gotta say I’ve been caught zoning on Curren$y … my bad Walker, you attempted to put the kid on. Ski Beatz & The Senseis laced most of the production with jazzy, soulful, wholesome plates for the emcee to go in on. Check the proof. Curren$y “Highed Up” An appearance from Raekwon doesn’t hurt either. Do yourself a solid and give this record a spin. Years ago (’02), I got my hands on a mixtape by a Philly duo harnessing the name of Crime Partners (consisting of a relatively unknown Peedi Crakk and Indy 500, the cousin of Freeway). At that point, I was just getting into the entire State Property crew and was curious to really scope Peedi out, as I had just started hearing about State P’s newest addition from a couple of friends who were working with the Roc at the time, not to mention “One For Peedi” had just made its first steps onto the internet mp3 trade circuit (IRC was the shit!). The moment the mixtape’s opening, “Sherm High”, had ran its course, I was stuck, scratching my head in disbelief… Did I just hear that? Did he just say “it might sound easy, my flow keep goin’/your gun keep showin’/you tellin’ me somethin’…clutch my burner” or “stickin’ and movin’, sippin’ and groovin’, shiftin’ the stick/manuverin’ the whip, racin’ time and losin”? Did I just stumble on some of the most original and vicious rap I’ve heard since sometime in the 90′s (seriously)? Yes. And get this…BOTH of them were dead nasty on every track the mixtape had to offer. Oh you still aren’t sold? Hold two from the joint… Crime Partners (Peedi Crakk & Indy 500) “Sherm High” Well, not much has changed since then. Check this new Indy joint with PC on hook duty. See, what a lot of people may not get at first is Indy’s style being way beyond your average type of AA-BB-CC rapper. Not only is his cadence mega unorthodox, to say the least, every verse I’ve heard is an avalanche of imagery, presented in thoroughbred discourse. Sure, that means it’s not the most accessible of rap, but at least it’s got something more to it. It’s not just rappin’ to be cute with words and to make everything rhyme at that expected point in the bar (anyone can do that…see the shitload of these internet sensations…you can come from anywhere and rap…great…but what the fuck are you tellin’ us?). Indy conveys an uncanny emotional depth within only a few lines, all while avoiding the vain display of melodrama by dropping to his knees (pause) and raising both arms to the sky. PTP CO-SIGN SINCE THE JUMP. Indy…I still got you on a beat or three fammo! |
