True City Killas

Longtime familia, Nasty Vaz and The God Bzar (of the infamous TCK crew) do our senses a favor in serving the first episode of their podcast. With Vaz on the wheels, you need to expect a plethora of not-so-obvious, yet not-so-pretentious, selections…specifically plenty of golden era b-sides, promos, remixes, and originals. This may turn out to be the 21st century version of WKCR’s Night Train show (on which Vaz was a host and partial stand-in DJ, along with Apex, Kinetic, and DJ Eli (Escobar))…which is a great thing. Either way, we hope these cats continue to pump this and offer whatever support, muscle, and Sasha Grey merch we can pull out our sleeves.

Also, shouts to Angelo for the photo above. Heads were a problem at the Nuyo, especially in ’98-’99. So many fond memories.

TCK Krew Podcast #1

Coming soon…the PTP “media section”…which will act as a 2nd home to this series of podcast goodness.

    1. Look at me looking all young and *happy*.

    2. Why am I (and others in this picture) clearly reacting to something while *certain other people* look like it’s fucking chemistry class in there?

That shit was good for its time though. 15 years from today you’ll look back at 2011 with a critical eye too. At least it was fun at the time. Nothing to do but keep on building.

    • 2011 been critically-eyed from the jump my dude…that’s PTP steez.

No doubt…but don’t get it twisted…I have mostly fond memories, even the not so great moments, of that era and those outings. My point is, that even at the time, I was fast to fall out of love with shit like those open mics and battles (Table Turns included…you felt that)…for plenty of good reasons (mostly having to do with the caliber of artist those shits were glorifying/supporting…seeing another guy/gal with cool punchlines and no personality or crab-scratch crazy, Super Duck Breaks wielding kid with a gold Vestax got old, dumb quick)…so it’s more just feelings that I carried over through the years. I’ll also big up Words! again because that event was, more times than not, getting it right somehow. Sure you saw some of those cipher rats who now attend shit like EOW and still suck today, but plenty of (random groupings of) nasty MC’s would always attend…plus the showcases were usually very flyer worthy …and then you had the ciphers outside after Rocky closed for the night.

To me, it was always about getting out with crew (or even for dolo) and hopefully catching a dope verse/performance/cipher or building new bridges, just that point in time boasted a higher success rate in witnessing the aforementioned (where today, I only go to shows a couple times a year, and NEVER to catch a list of unknowns with a hardly-known headliner).

      Fuck…I miss the Wetlands.
