BRUTAL TUESDAY: Kreator

Originally billed in ’82 under the name Tyrant … then Tormentor, this group of German thrash pioneers finally settled on the name Kreator and signed to Noise Records (which was also a home to Celtic Frost and Voivod). Their second LP Pleasure to Kill is arguably one of the heaviest and fastest records to come outta the genre. The popularity from this album lead ‘em to a deal with the major Epic Records and they eventually had enough backing to tour in the States by the late ’80s. Check the footy from that era.

BRUTAL TUESDAY: Black Army Jacket Reunion Show

Mydelf and Geng were able to make it over to check Black Army Jacket’s reunion show on September 4th in the zone they started in, NYC.

PTP has recorded our own take of the events but for this episode of Brutal Tuesday, enjoy the angle provided by GutterKiss. Don’t play yourself after you check the footage of the show, tune into more BAJ tracks here.

BRUTAL TUESDAY: Elec-tric Shock To You!!

Some fuckin’ THRASH for your system! Progressive Thrash at that! In my book, this is one of the best bands to do it – thrash, prog, prog thrash…whatever. Voivod’s Killing Technology and Nothingface still get massive burn in my headphones.

The following video is exactly what I ask for in regard to the ideal old school metal visual experience…cardboard special efx, robots, human testing, sloppy blue/green screen, a little gore, ill half hair, and enough riff’age and charging d-beat type rhythmic affairs to shake a horn (or two) at.

“Ravenous Medicine”

Seriously…I need my first video to be low budget sci-fi like this. Shouts to my ace Malik Ali (Rockland County’s finest…pause) for bringing these guys to my utmost attention.

Rest In Power “Piggy”.

The Blackest Of Black Friday

None of that pink bullshit…
This could have gone up during Tuesday’s installment of much-needed brutality…but I wanted to save it for this special day of exploded waistlines and consumerism. We’re keeping things slower and sludgey this week (wouldn’t want you losing any of that meal via impromptu keyboard mosh)…my man Note set it off with the Southern downpour of Acid Bath…now let’s shoot back to the gods of anything heavy and metal…the forefathers of all that is slow, down-tuned, sludgey, doomy, brutal, whatever…in raw, 1970′s form. My favorite band of all time…BLACK-fucking-SABBATH. Live in Paris, France.

Part 1

Part 2 (featuring the original version of “War Pigs”)

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5 (for all of you Iron Man fans out there)

Part 6

Part 7

Seriously, if you’re a fan at all of heavy music…or would like to start getting your feet wet with it…set aside a good 45-hour and WATCH THIS through. This is the blueprint.

BRUTAL TUESDAY: Acid Bath

A lot of sludgey illness came out of Louisiana in the mid 90′s but the first Acid Bath album will always remain at the top of the pile in my collection … When the Kite Strings Pop.

Dr. Seuss Is Dead (Showcase Theatre, Corona, California – 1994)

The Blue (New Orleans, LA – 1994)

Jezebel (Big Weezel Skate Park, Little Rock, Arkansas -1996)

Tranquilized (Boston – 1996)

Cassie Eats Cockroaches (Omaha – 1996)

Scream of the Butterfly (Colorado Springs – 1996)

Rest in Power, Audie.

BRUTAL TUESDAY: Live At Nikki D’s

No, not the “first lady of Def Jam”, rap femme fatale… I guess Nikki D’s was a bar in some crevice of Columbia, South Carolina. Who cares…enjoy the footage…it’s pretty great (i.e. clear and reasonably audible) for being (semi-)close to 2 decades old.  Shouts to all of my NYHC heads, these selections are for you crazy kids…

Rorschach. Nothing above.

Los Crudos. Latin Kings.

Drop Dead. Crustified Violence. Peep the drunk red neck antics.

Assuck. Mightiest Grind.

What’s that? You don’t understand what’s going on? You hear only noise? It’s Brutal Tuesday at PTP, dammit! You either do or you don’t…so go check _____________ if you wanna be spoonfed some sweet shit.

BRUTAL TUESDAY: Game Over

New York’s own thrash metal representatives Nuclear Assault played a show at Santos on October 9th and I’m kicking myself for missing it … hang the pope!
